Youth Art Month Guidelines

  • Register Here
  • Participation will be FREE for members and $20 for non-members.
    • The top 30 award winners will get a prize.
    • The top award winner will have their artwork displayed on the cover of the WAEA Art Times Magazine!
    • State art show will be March 4-31, 2023 at East Towne Mall in Madison, Wisconsin.
    • Youth Art Month Celebration will be March 31, 2023 from 12:00-1:00 pm with make and takes, prizes, music, and much, much more!
  • Artwork Requirements
    • Each teacher is allowed to submit 5 pieces of artwork for the regional show. Three out of the five will be selected for the State show.
    • Art will be in a public space in the mall if you would rather photograph the work a print of the work is fine. Please use high-resolution imagery if possible. 
    • There are no size restrictions.
    • No group pieces. All artwork must be created by one individual student within the last year. Only one artwork per student may be submitted.
    • Artwork MUST be from the artist’s own imagery, concept, and planning. Images that are of a celebrity or from direct internet or other imagery that is not the artist’s own reference cannot be entered as it is or may borderline on plagiarism. Artwork that does not follow these guidelines will not be accepted.
    • No glass allowed. Please make sure art is ready to hang on panels/walls.
    • A Photo Release Form must accompany each students’ work.
  • A completed YAM registration includes the following:
    • Online registration only.
    • Do not type in all caps.
    • When online registration has been completed.
    • 5 student artworks PER TEACHER.
    • Participation is FREE for members. A $20 check payable to Wisconsin Art Education Association for nonmembers and can be sent to:

South West Wisconsin Regional Show Reception Date:  Sunday, Feb. 19, 2023 from 12-3pm. (Teachers will take down art immediately following the reception.  Art for the State Exhibit stays with Mandy and the rest can go home with teachers.)    
Time: Show will be up and open for viewing M-F, Feb. 12th-17th from 9am-6pm. 
Location: Common Wealth Gallery 100 S. Baldwin St. Madison, WI 
​Set Up: Saturday, Feb. 11, 2023 from 11am-1pm. Bring your students' art to hang on gallery walls with hammers and nails. You will hang your own or coordinate with Mandy.. Please review all emails about options for 'framing' and hanging art so it stays up safely.
