![]() I am currently in my second year as the K-6 art teacher at the Johnson Creek Elementary and Middle Schools. Along with teaching art, I have a variety of extracurricular roles; I coach JV Girls Basketball, Middle School Track, and Run Club and I’m an advisor for Elementary Student Council. I received my bachelors in art education from UW-Platteville and have a goal of earning a masters. When Johnson Creek School District transitioned this year to personalized learning K-12 I was eager to switch from a teacher directed classroom to a choice based art studio. I’ve delved into TAB (K-6) and am amazed every day by my students. As a newer teacher, the WAEA has been a blessing and an invaluable resource. Through various conferences, workshops, and idea exchanges, I’ve created an amazing circle or art educators! I believe that we as art educators, are so lucky to have the opportunity to teach our youth to think creatively, collaborate, and problem solve through the arts. In return, I have learned so much from my students and couldn’t imagine any other career!

Congratulations Kayla, your hard work is paying off. Students in Johnson Creek are lucky to have you as their teacher. I'm not sure what a "choice based art studio" is, but I really like the sound of it !
