My name is Christine Kernan. I have been teaching elementary art in the Tomahawk School district for 25 years. The time that I have been teaching has been exciting and constantly evolving. I have always tried to embrace changes to benefit myself and my students. Technology has also brought an intriguing new aspect to our field. STEAM is another example, although many of us have been doing this for quite a long time. I do love incorporating it into my classes.
As an art teacher, I feel that we create an outlet for our children not only to learn but to be expressive with their feelings and feel safe. Although we see so many children in a week, it's good to know that connections are made that help to make them feel better about themselves through art. I plan on staying in the profession a few more years and to keep the visual arts growing in our school and community.
