Creating ceramic products to sell begins with many different facets. How will it be made? What kind of products to offer? How will it be glazed? Where will it be sold? All of these questions were researched, discussed and answered by Prime Products, a 6 – 8 grade student-run business from DeLong Middle School in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

What a fantastic honor to be recognized as the Wisconsin Art Teacher of the Month in February!
When I was in 2nd grade, I made a bet with my best friend that I would be an Art Teacher before she would be. Needless to say, I won that bet. Now, I am lucky enough to teach excited 2nd grade artists how to practice, experiment, invent, and problemsolve when I see them for Art Class! I am a proud UWEau Claire Blugold who graduated with an Art Education degree and a Music minor in 2010. After I graduated, I met an amazing group of students, colleagues, and parents at Fontana K8 School in Fontana, WI where I taught PreKindergarten through 8th grade Art for 4 years. During my time in Fontana, I organized a yearly schoolwide art show complete with a photo booth, scavenger hunt, interactive art, and colorful art displays everywhere! I also took 8th graders to the Chicago Art Institute annually, competed with 8th grade students in the Lake Geneva Winterfest Snowsculpting competition, and submitted student art to local shows. I led the Fontana Art Club to collaboratively create a 17 ft. long “lake and fish themed” mosaic for our school entryway, mosaic stepping stones for our arboretum, and clay bead poles for our school garden. Working at Fontana School was such a great part of my teaching career and I think about my little Fontana artists everyday! I currently teach K5 Art at Cambridge Elementary School in Cambridge, WI. I am lucky enough to work with an enthusiastic staff and an amazingly creative group of young artists. Currently, I am planning our first schoolwide art show at CES which will include a black light gallery and animal themed everything! The CES Art Club is finishing up a cafeteria mural depicting our school forest with abstract patterns and crazy birds. I can’t wait to see what the aspiring artists of CES create in the future. Observing students creating is truly is the best part of my job. In what other job can you play with paint, glitter and clay all day and shape young creative minds while doing so?! I was also on the Wisconsin Art Education Association Board as the Youth Art Month CoChair from 20122014 and received the Award of Excellence each year from the Council for Art Education, Inc. Organizing the state art show will be a constant reminder for me about how important it is to advocate for the arts and how to get student art out in the community. Being a part of WAEA Board was such a beneficial, fun, and meaningful experience for me. In my classroom, you may find me wearing fairy wings and a tutu when it’s time for the “glitter fairy” to visit or I might just have two pencils and a paintbrush tucked in my hair from the excitement of the day. No matter what state I’m in, I’m always reflecting on how lucky I am to have a job that I absolutely love and students and staff to make each and every day awesome. Thank you for making ME feel awesome and remember to keep creating! Clarence Corbett-Soza, Wet Hands, Shorewood High School Fanny Tyska, Pom (Church), Madison West High School
