PRESENTING & RESPONDING Thursday, February 15th, 2018 9am-4pm @ WMOCA 309 McClellan St, Wausau, WI 54403 Please join us for a full day of Art Educator Professional Development at the newly renovated Wausau Museum of Contemporary Art. In the morning, we will discuss how artists gain personal satisfaction and accomplishment when they are given opportunities to prepare, refine, and present their own work. David Hummer will talk about how artists are working in the 21st century, and we will actively respond to works in the gallery. Teachers will learn of new ways and opportunities to get themselves and students involved with local exhibitions. When artists respond to their own work or works of others, it opens opportunity to develop connections with artists, both near and far. Teachers will learn new ways to incorporate presenting and responding into their curriculum. In the afternoon we will be working hands-on participating in a painting workshop instructed by David Hummer. I live in Mount Horeb with my husband Joe and two children, Jack (4 yrs old) and Grace (2 yrs old). Along with my art education degree, I also have a BFA in painting. Both my degrees were earned at UW Oshkosh. I come from a family of artists so art has naturally always been a part of my life. I feel so lucky to be in the position to teach others, our youngest artists especially, about the value of creativity not just in and of itself but as a stepping stone for so many valuable aspects of learning and life—connection, perseverance, collaboration, problem solving, etc. To watch my students make these discoveries is true joy. They have, in turn, taught me so much in the process. As have all the amazing educators in my circle. |
