The Fall Conference Was Fantastic!................  Here Are Some Highlights

There were so many fantastic presenters sharing a wide range of information.  There was an inspiring Keynote address from Bob Reeker discussing choice, metacognition and more.  There was the wonderful camaraderie of seeing old friends and making many new ones too.  There were freebies and hands-on and awards and more.  The Fall Conference is in the books, but the glow from Wausau will last a long time.  Here are a few of the highlights.  For more on the awards ceremony visit the Awards Page.  Special thanks to Frank Juarez, Jenny Balge and Jeanne Bjork for photographing the conference.

Bob Reeker is in his 29th year of teaching K-5 visual art for Lincoln Public Schools; he was an elementary assistant principal from 1997-1999 before returning to the art room. In addition, he is an adjunct instructor for elementary art methods at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Nebraska.  Bob has served many roles in his state organization and as well as nationally.  He has been Youth Art Month chair/co-chair, Co-President, and most recently co-chaired the 2017 Nebraska fall art conference in Lincoln.  At the national level, Bob served as NAEA Elementary Division Director from 2007-2011.  He was elected as NAEA Western Region Vice President Elect in 2016, serving as West Region Vice President from 2018-2020.
Nic Hahn is currently a K-8  Visual Arts Teacher in Otsego, Minnesota. After Graduating from the University of Wisconsin Stout, Nichole worked in rural Wisconsin. After moving to Minnesota, she worked a short while in a school in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota. The majority of her career, Nic has worked in a suburban district, ISD728. Hahn has taught students as young as preschool on up to Adults, and every age in between. She is the author of a blog called MiniMatisse.blogspot.com since 2010 and is very active on social media professionally posting on Instagram (@MiniMatissArt) and Twitter (@MiniMatisse) on a regular basis. Hahn works with a company called The Art of Education providing professional development to Art Teachers.  Most recently, Nic Hahn was honored with the 2018 Art Teacher of the Year for the state of Minnesota.
During Jeanne Styczinski’s 30 year career as a kindergarten teacher, Jeanne read thousands of children’s picture books and wrote/illustrated many stories in her classrooms.  She could see the important role that children’s picture books play in students’ literacy development and how early connection with pictures books help students develop a love for reading. In 2013, Jeanne felt an urgency to pursue a life-long dream, to write and illustrate picture books for children beyond her classroom. She has created a small publishing company,  JeanneKay Publishing (jeannekaypublishing.com), a website (mrsjeanne.com), promotes writing and illustrating by presenting to elementary schools/libraries and has self-published three picture books, that have all won a Moonbeam Children’s Book Award (2014 Mama, How Does The Wind Start To Blow? and 2015 Papa Why Does The Sun Shine? and 2017 Who Will Be My Friend?
