Ben Shumaker
Ben Schumaker founded the Memory Project as a social work graduate student at UW-Madison in 2004.  It has been his full time pursuit ever since 2006, when Katie Couric ran a story on the project during her first broadcast of the CBS Evening News.  That publicity helped to spread the project into schools around the country, and since then the project has delivered over 100,000 portraits to children in 43 countries.  Although, what this usually looks like on a day to day basis is Ben sitting around his house, alone in his sweatpants, emailing back and forth with the many art teachers who make the project possible.
