Tiffany Beltz and WI YAM Honored!

Congratulations to Tiffany Beltz and Wisconsin Youth Art Month for being
recognized with the Claire Flanagan Award by the Council for Art Education.
To be eligible for recognition, state chairpersons submitted documentation of their Youth Art Month Programs. Documentation was evaluated across a variety of key categories, based on predetermined criteria.

Awards will be presented to the recipients at the 2017 National Art Education Association (NAEA) Convention, March 2-4 in New York. Sponsored nationally by The Council for Art Education, Youth Art Month is an annual observance, typically in March, designed to emphasize the value of art education for all youth and to encourage support for quality school art programs. Youth Art Month provides a forum for acknowledging the imagination, innovation, and creative skills that a visual arts experience can nurture. Across the country, students, teachers and communities direct attention to the value of a visual arts education that develops divergent and critical thinking, multicultural awareness, and technical, communication, and expressive skills.

To find out more about Youth Art Month or to participate in Youth Art Month activities, contact your state chairperson, state art education association, or The Council for Art Education at www.councilforarteducation.org.

Honor Society News

Hello State Leaders!

As we gear up for the 2016-2017 school year, I’d like to share some important information with you about the National Art Honor Society program. Please check out the flyer attached!

When registering an NAHS or NJAHS chapter, a yearly “sponsorship fee” is required. The sponsorship fee is the teacher’s Active membership dues. If a sponsor is already an Active NAEA member, the sponsorship fee is waived (this means they have either just renewed their membership OR it will lapse soon and they must renew in the near future). IF he or she is not currently a member, the sponsorship fee must be included with registration. Paying the sponsorship fee provides the sponsor with NAEA membership, making him or her eligible to sponsor a chapter of NAHS/NJAHS at the school. In other words, the chapter fee equals their membership dues.

What does this mean for our State? An NAHS Sponsor will always show on your state roster because sponsors are required to be Active members. If the sponsorship fee is being waived, the sponsor has already paid for membership and his/her NAEA membership is current. You receive rebates for members who join OR renew membership by paying the chapter fee through the NAHS program—these memberships are included on your monthly membership rosters.

NAHS/NJAHS Report: Each summer you will receive an NAHS/NJAHS report of registered chapters from the program year just ending. A report is attached for your records!

How can the NAHS/NJAHS program help us? The NAHS program is a valuable way for you to gain new members. An increasing number of schools are electing to cover the annual sponsorship fee, providing many sponsors with NAEA membership at no cost. We encourage you to expand your marketing and outreach to include the National Art Honor Society—a distinguished opportunity for students, school art programs, and art educators.

Visit www.arteducators.org/nahs or contact Heather Overvold (NAHS@arteducators.org) to for more information regarding the NAHS/NJAHS program.

Best wishes from the NAEA team for a fantastic school year!
