Lee Amborn has been doing the Annual Art Teacher’s Idea Exchange in his district for the last 28 years.

Carol and Brian thought it would be a wonderful opportunity for art teachers to get together and exchange ideas/lesson plans and instructional thoughts. Those who participated were told to bring numerous copies of one lesson plan plus visual samples. Teachers were also asked to bring one “teacher tip” to share. Participants were excited about having the opportunity to see different ideas and approaches to art instruction.

About 10 art educators attended the 1st Annual Art Teacher’s Idea Exchange from various grade levels and districts. The products we use daily, from packaging and clothing to pens, cars, websites, and media are products of the designer's art. Through the vision and leadership of Dr. Martin Rayala, DPI's former art consultant, Wisconsin became one of the early leaders in design education.

Two other areas that further expand the world of visual art are visual communication and visual culture. Visual communication grew from recognition of the importance, efficiency, and clarity of communication with pictures in many knowledge domains. Visual culture reflects the methods of the culture, ranging from its politics, economics, and ethics to pop and folk culture.

Art and Design Education concerns should be addressed to Rebecca Vail, Director, Content and Learning Team (608/266-2364) at the Department of Public Instruction.

Melvin Pontious, arts education consultant, retires from the Wisconsin DPI

http://www.wiarted.org/4/post/2011/12/melvin-pontious-arts-education-consultant-retires-from-the-wisconsin-dpi.html

http://www.wiarted.org/4/post/2011/12/melvin-pontious-arts-education-consultant-retires-from-the-wisconsin-dpi.html#comments

Uncategorized

Melvin Pontious is honored for service to arts education in Wisconsin as he retires from the state Dep [...]

Melvin Pontious is honored for service to arts education in Wisconsin as he retires from the state Department of Public Instruction.Representatives from the arts community across Wisconsin came together Thursday evening, June 2, 2011, to honor Mel for his many years of tireless service advocating and guiding Arts Education in Wisconsin.
